Riomaggiore ( = magic!)

After a raging storm in Cinque Terre the day before I wanted to go there, the first three towns of Cinque Terre were completely destroyed. We wanted to hike from town to town, but with the train track in reparation and all the stores buried in mud, we were only able to get to the last town on our last day in Italy. It was a bit of a chance hopping on the train that morning to get there, because there were only a few trains (if any) that would head back later that night to Sestri Levante, and we did not know if we would be able to get home! But we went for it and luckily made it back on the last train at 6pm that night. So we explored all of the small sweet streets in Riomaggiore ("Grand River") and enjoyed Spaghetti Seafood Pasta in front of the sea.

Riomaggiore means Grand River because there used to be a giant river flowing through this canyon where the town was built. All of the buildings decorate the hillside, and above them are acres and acres of vinyards! There were also lemon, lime, and kumquat trees on every corner, and Riomaggiore is famous for its lemons!
